WORKSHOP SERIES

The following two-hour workshops provide an opportunity for LMC candidates to enhance the skills they need to find new work. These sessions are fast-paced and interactive -- designed to complement the individual sessions with your consultant.

Workshop One - Getting Started
In this workshop we'll look at hints on dealing with your job loss, ways to get yourself prepared for the search, some of the skills needed and what to expect in the roller coaster ride of job search. We'll also look at some trends in the world of work and how your own style may impact your experience.

Workshop Two - Marketing Materials
Developing effective marketing materials - resumes, cover letters - requires a clear understanding of the needs of the job market and an ability to clearly articulate qualifications that relate to those needs. Discussions will centre on how to make written materials more focused on the needs of the targeted organizations or industries to ensure that your qualifications clearly address the requirements of the positions you are pursuing.

Workshop Three - Identifying Job Opportunities
Exploring the different sources of work opportunities - networking, search firms and agencies, cold calls, newspapers and the Internet - requires an understanding of how these areas operate and what to expect from them. Learn the principles and practices used in each source so you can customize your overall job search strategy.

Workshop Four - Winning Interview Strategies
Explore how to best position your qualifications in interviews to fit the requirements of the specific job applied for. Learn valuable tips and strategies to customize your interview for the positions you are pursuing. Bring an ad for a job you have applied for (or plan to) and learn a process to help you prepare for a winning interview.
