Behavioural Interviews ..:

Preparation | Sample Q & A | Intro to Interviewing

The key principle behind this type of interviewing is: "the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour."

Interviewers want you to give specific examples of past experiences when you answer questions. Sometimes, they will incorporate behavioural techniques, i.e.:

  • "Tell me about..."
  • "Give me an example..."
  • "Describe..."

TIP: Even if they do not ask for an example, give one. Many questions are posed without asking for specifics. Watch out! Some applicants talk in generalities and forget to provide supporting evidence. The supporting evidence is your past experience.

This requires preparation on your part; it is easy to forget things that you have done. However, if you use the practice scripts (provided later) and also add your own areas of questioning to develop specific answers, you should have no problems.

Tell the interviewer a story (briefly) that helps them understand and illustrates what you are saying.
